Hiding from the heatwave in Mildura

During the past few day, Victoria area is suffering from the hottest temperatures ever. Great. We remind ourselves: we came here for the sun and games. We get sun, but cannot enjoy the games too much, there's few things you can do when the temp hits +45. There would be nice trails for walking, horse riding etc. but not now...

We decided it's too hot to even drive in an air-conditioned car and extended the stay in Mildura to two nights. This is middle-size city (biggest of the area, suppose) which is living on farming irrigated land and food&wine tourism. We did not come here to see the farms but to enjoy their produce, and that we have done. Funny feeling, eating and tasting wines all day and not being able to move or even walk at all to spend any energy. We just hope the calories evaporate in the heat somehow?

Visiting the wineries by car is something difficult for Finnish people. Even though being somewhat selective on what wines to taste (and not taste all the 30 varieties the cellar doors offer for tasting) it doesn't feel like a good idea to visit more that 1-2 wineries per day. I know you can spit the wine out, but there's alcohol there, once it hits the mouth, spitting feels like a betraying our Finnish ancestry... The wineries that give just one sip of each wine are much better suited for me, I like someone else taking the responsibility... (Would hope that to happen with the food portions as well, we are good customers and eat up all that's offered to us, and the portions here are generous...)

The attitude towards drinking and driving here seems looser than in Finland, but that doesn't change our attitudes, so we try not to be drunk when sitting behind the wheel (especially since the wheel is on the wrong side of the car...). Driving on the wrong side of the road hasn't been too much of a problem otherwise, just using the windscreen cleaners instead of signalling when turning...
